Elite Finishes, the etch-resistant alternative to marcite, are mill-prepared marcite alternatives blended with a premium white rock, the highest quality color quartz, white Portland cement, and proprietary additives designed to enhance strength, density, bonding, and curing. An Elite Finish will yield a hard, long-lasting surface that is highly resistant to stains and spot etching commonly associated with traditional pool plasters.
Surface Preparation
Elite Finishes are suitable for application over gunite or shotcrete substrates that are free of foreign matter such as dirt, grease, oil, dust, etc. If an acid wash is used to remove foreign matter from the substrate, neutralize the surface with a solution of soda ash and water. For renovation projects, Florida Stucco's POOL PREP is an excellent preparation material to use in conjunction with an Elite Finish. Consult our POOL PREP specifications for additional details. Roughening the pool's cement surface provides a suitable basis for mechanical bonding between the substrate and the Elite Finish. Previously finished surfaces can be prepared for refinishing by sandblasting, hydroblasting, or acid washing. Existing plaster should be chipped away 2"–4" below the tile line and around return outlets, pool lights, and main drains.
Mixing Procedure
Use only clean, potable water.
WATER MUST BE CAREFULLY MEASURED FOR EACH BATCH. THE USE OF AIL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Approximately 1.5 to 2 gallons of water per 80-pound bag may be used to bring the mix to a lump-free consistency. Allow the mixture to agitate in the mixer for 10–12 minutes to achieve optimum workability. Elite Finish is a complete product; the addition of other materials is not necessary.
Application
Apply an Elite Finish over a cement base that has been dry for a minimum of 24 hours.
The pool's walls and floor must be evenly sprayed with water before application to reduce suction.
Elite Finish should be applied at a thickness of 3/8" to 1/2". Application is best performed by mechanics who adhere to the professional standards of the plastering industry.
Exposing Elite Finish
Depending on prevailing weather conditions, exposure of the Elite Finish can begin shortly after troweling.
Removal of the surface layer of cement can be accomplished using water and a soft-bristle brush. Other industry-accepted methods may also be used.
Curing
The pool should be filled with water upon completion of the exposure phase.
Refer to the National Plaster Council Start-Up Procedures immediately after filling the pool with water.
Coverage
An Elite Finish will yield approximately 17 square feet of coverage per 80-pound bag.
Packaging
Elite Finishes are packaged in 80-lb., heavy-duty, moisture-resistant bags.
